Amaryllis: a Perfect Gift which Keeps on Giving
The Franklin Garden Club is once again selling Amaryllis bulbs to not only provide beauty during the holiday season, but the bulbs will bloom again in the spring! Amaryllis blooms symbolize celebration, hope and the renewal of life and are a beautiful addition to the holidays as their bright, showy blooms bring warmth and joy to homes during the colder months. These bulbs, imported from Holland, produce flowers that are twice the size and quantity of those bulbs that are found in local stores. The quality cannot be matched!
There are several reasons why Amaryllis flowers are the perfect holiday gift. They signal a unique and heartfelt gift; they’re beautiful, striking and exotic; they’re perfect for beginning gardeners and for advanced gardeners too; and they’re fun. In addition, they are perfect for someone who is a shut-in as the care for the plant is minimal, but the anticipation of the flowers is a build up to the actual beauty when the blooms arrive!
Prices range from $16 to $20. Orders can be placed by sending an email to franklingardenclub1945@gmail.com, or by contacting any Franklin Garden Club member. Also, the Franklin Garden Club will be taking orders at Fred’s Restaurant during the Franklin Fall Festival on Saturday, October 3 with final day to order October 5.
The bulbs will be distributed November 6 at The Hubs Vine. In addition to the bulbs, Ace Hardware will be donating soil for the bulbs. All the buyer needs to do is decide what container to use! Information on how to plant the bulbs in a container will be provided, as well as how to plant the bulbs in your garden afterwards for spectacular blooms again in the spring. Voles and deer do not like amaryllis, so these predators are not a threat. Once the bulbs are established, they will bloom every year in May, increasing their yield as they can withstand our mild winters.
